COLORADO CHAOS PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER
DAVID MATTHEWS
David Matthews is the President and Founder of the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club, Inc., one of the largest and most respected AAU programs in the nation. Matthews, who graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in History with a double minor in Journalism and Political Science, was one of the youngest people in the history of the state of Colorado to be a President of a non-profit organization when he founded the Colorado Chaos in 2000. He is widely regarded as the premier basketball mind in the entire Rocky Mountain Region and one of the biggest advocates and hardest workers for the promotion of Colorado prep basketball you will find. Through the years, hundreds of college coaches and scouts have come to count on his expertise concerning Colorado prep basketball.
The Colorado Chaos Basketball Club is the premier AAU program in the Rocky Mountain Region with a total of fifteen elite boy’s teams, ranging in age from 13-17. Over the past eight years Colorado Chaos teams have produced an un-paralleled 217 college athletes, 57 of whom are playing at the Division I level and two whom are playing in the N.B.A. To date, Colorado Chaos players have earned roughly seven million dollars in scholarship money towards achieving their higher education. Colorado Chaos teams have played in seventeen different states and every continental U.S. time zone in order to obtain exposure with college coaches and gain valuable experience playing against the top competition in the country. The Colorado Chaos also places a huge emphasis on player development and offers countless individual and small group workout sessions designed to improve players overall skill level. The Colorado Chaos is one of the most respected AAU programs in the country by college coaches and scouts. The program is one of only four programs in the Mountain Time Zone, and the only Colorado program, to be ranked as one of the top 75 AAU programs in the country each of the past six years, including finishing the 2008 season ranked 22nd in the country and the 2009 season ranked 37th in the country. To date, the program has won ten major national tournament titles, including six in the past two years. The Colorado Chaos is also the only AAU program in the region to be affiliated with Reebok Grassroots Basketball.
In addition to the Colorado Chaos, Matthews runs the premier events in the region, including the Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase all star games, Top of the Rockies and Colorado Elite Eight tournaments and the Colorado Elite Camp, Colorado Fall Shootout camps and Colorado Chaos Challenge Games. The Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase all star games have become the biggest single event in the state and attract over 1,000 spectators and countless college coaches and scouts annually. The Top of the Rockies is the premier AAU tournament in the region and the only tournament that has gained recognition in some of the nation’s top basketball publications and last year’s Top of the Rockies tournament was the largest tournament in Colorado history.
Matthews also writes for various websites and scouting services, including Prep Colorado, Prep West Hoops, Colorado Preps and West Coast Hoops Report. He has also been published countless times in national and regional publications, including the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Colorado Springs Gazette, Pueblo Chieftan, Fort Collins Coloradoan, Cheyenne Eagle, Scout Hoops, Rivals, HoopMasters and PrepChamp, amongst many others. Matthews is also a featured guest on the Colorado Preps radio network and Prep Colorado during the high school basketball season with weekly interviews and blogs about some of the top performers in the state and he was featured in a coffee table book about some of Colorado’s most influential people in the lives of children. In addition, Matthews publishes the Rocky Mountain Hoop Report, a one of a kind subscription only publication for college coaches and basketball fans covering Colorado and Wyoming prep basketball with roughly one hundred subscribers.

MIKE PUCCIO
Coach Puccio is in his eighth season with the Colorado Chaos. This will be his fifth season coaching the 17’s Blue. Prior to that, he coached the 17’s Red, 16’s Blue and 16’s White teams. Puccio has coached 45 Colorado Chaos players who have gone on to play college basketball, including 18 at the Division I level. Puccio is currently second on the all time Colorado Chaos wins and games coached list.
Puccio recently finished his first season as the varsity coach at Standley Lake High School where he led the Gators to their first playoff berth in three years and nearly doubled their win total from the previous season. He is currently the youngest varsity coach in class 5A and one of the brightest young coaching minds in the state. Prior to this season, he was the junior varsity coach at Standley Lake under head coach John Baskin. Prior to joining the Gators staff, Puccio was the junior varsity coach at Green Mountain for one season under former state champion coach Rudy Martin and the varsity assistant at Golden High School for one season under coach John Anderson.
As a player, Puccio played at Colorado State University at Pueblo for two seasons under legendary coach Joe Folda, who is the winingest coach in Thunder Wolf history. While at C.S.U.-Pueblo, Puccio played with fellow Chaos coaches Brian Vecchio and Brett Colepfil. Prior to that, he played for two seasons at Northeastern Junior College under legendary coach Lowell Roumph, who is one of the winingest coaches in junior college history. Following his college career, Puccio played two seasons of professional basketball with the Colorado Crossover of the International Basketball League.
Puccio currently teaches Physical Education at Peak to Peak Charter in Lafayette and he is a graduate of Colorado State University at Pueblo. He lives in Lakewood with his girlfriend Erin.

JASON WILKINS
Coach Wilkins is entering his sixth year with the Colorado Chaos. This will be his fourth season coaching the 17’s White. Prior to that, he coached the 16’s Blue and 15’s Blue. Wilkins has coached 24 Colorado Chaos players who have gone on to play college basketball. He is currently third on the all time Colorado Chaos wins and games coached list and his team set a single season wins record last year with 44 wins.
Wilkins is currently the junior varsity coach at Cherry Creek High School under head coach Mike Brookhart. He has been on the Bruins staff for three seasons and has helped guide a team to the Final Four. Prior to that he coached at Littleton High School under head coaches Tom Bancroft and fellow Chaos coach Mark Drury, who is fourth on the all-time Colorado Chaos wins list.
Wilkins is currently a Social Studies teacher at Cherry Creek High School and he is a graduate of the University of Iowa. He is single and lives in Greenwood Village.

JEFF KLOSTER
Coach Kloster is entering his second season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 16's Blue this year after coaching the 15's Blue last summer.
Coach Kloster recently completed his 15th season as the Head Coach at Longmont High School. This year’s team finished with a 20-6 record and advanced to the Elite Eight. Through the course of his career at Longmont High School, his teams have won over 230 games. They finished as the State Runner-up in 1997 and have advanced to three Final Fours, and made numerous Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen appearances. Coach Kloster has a total of 28 years coaching High School basketball and loves the chance to teach life lessons to the boys’ who come through his program.
Coach Kloster played collegiately at Western State under coaches Paul Coleman and Mike Riley. He was a two year starter for the Mountaineers. Coach Kloster graduated in 1979 with a Bachelors degree and started teaching and coaching in the St. Vrain Valley School District one year later. In 1991, he was hired to teach and coach at his alma mater Longmont High School, where he plans to stay until he retires.
Kloster has been married to his wife Kris for 28 wonderful years. They have two children who currently attend schools in Longmont. His son Cade, is a sophomore at Longmont High and a Colorado Chaos player, and his daughter Kelle, is a 7th grader at Westview Middle School.

MARK DRURY
Coach Drury is entering his fifth year with the Colorado Chaos. During his tenure with the Chaos, he has coached mainly the 16 and 17 year-old teams. This year his work will be as an assistant/consultant to the older teams and coaches.
Drury has garnered several awards over his thirty years of
coaching, including being named the Denver Post 4A girls coach of the year
and Rocky Mountain News 5A boys coach of the year. He was also named the
Continental League coach of the year six times while at
Littleton High School, and
has coached in three Colorado all state games. He owns a 243-127 overall
varsity record. His son Nathan was a longtime Colorado Chaos player and
also played for Mark at Littleton High School. He is currently playing his
second year of professional basketball in Germany. Mark's other son,
Luke, was a collegiate soccer player and is in his fifth year of a P.H.D.
program in cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Drury is
also an avid baseball fan, and worked seven years as a professional
baseball scout for the Detroit Tigers.

PORTER CUTRELL
Coach Cutrell is entering his first season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 16’s Red team.
Cutrell is a very accomplished high school coach. He has led the Mullen Mustangs for the past thirteen seasons and won state titles in 2001 and 2006. During that time, his teams have posted a combined record of 217-103. In addition to his two state titles, he has led the Mustangs to five Final Four appearances and eleven Sweet Sixteen appearances. His teams have also won five Centennial League Titles. Cutrell has also twice been named the Colorado 5A Boys Coach of the Year and won numerous Centennial League Coach of the Year Awards. He is also the all-time winningest coach in Mullen High School history.
Prior to his career at Mullen, Cutrell coached under head coach Dave Bliss at the University of New Mexico for one season, where the Lobos finished 28-5 and won the Western Athletic Conference and played in the N.C.A.A. Tournament. Prior to his tenure at New Mexico, he coached was an assistant coach at the New Mexico Military Institute Junior College, one of the top junior colleges in the country. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at both Deming and Roswell high schools in New Mexico.
As a player, Cutrell played at Eastern New Mexico University and the New Mexico Military Institute. Following his collegiate career, he played professionally for four years in Chile, New Zealand and Finland. He finished his professional playing career with the Topeka Sizzlers, where he was contracted as a player/coach.

CHAD BELVEAL
Coach Belveal is in his third season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 15’s Blue this season after coaching the 14’s Blue last season and the 17’s Green team the summer before that.
Belveal has been a high school coach for 16 years and a head coach for 11 years. He has a reputation as a program builder, having taken three non-winning programs to league prominence and state playoff berths. Belveal started his coaching career at Wray High School, where he took the Eagles to the state playoffs three consecutive seasons after a 30 year hiatus from the state playoffs. When he left Wray, he had more wins than any other coach in Wray basketball history. Following his career at Wray, Belveal moved on to coach at Air Academy High School. In his second season Coach Belveal took the Kadets to the state tournament after 12 years of missing the playoffs. Belveal's Kadet team then returned to the playoffs for a second straight season, marking the first time they made the playoffs in consecutive seasons since 1989. He recently finished his first season at Cheyenne Mountain High School, where he guided the Indians to an 18 win season after they won only 5 games the year prior to his arrival. The 13 win improvement was the most of any 4A team in the state.
Belveal teaches Physical Education at Cheyenne Mountain and is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado. He and his wife Joanne have three boys, Robbie, Kai and Tory, all of whom play for the Colorado Chaos.

ADAM MITCHELL
Coach Mitchell is entering his third season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 16’s White team this year after coaching the 17’s Green and 15’s White the previous two seasons.
Mitchell recently finished his fifth season as the junior varsity coach at Golden High School under head coach John Anderson. While at Golden, he has been a part of a perennial state title contender and helped lead the Demons to three league titles and a Final Four appearance. Mitchell is also the junior varsity baseball coach at Golden. Prior to his time with the Demons, he was a member of the practice squad for the University of Colorado women’s team.
Mitchell currently works at Golden high school and he is a graduate of the University of Colorado. He is single and lives in Lakewood.

MIKE FLANAGAN
Coach Flanagan is entering his fourth season with Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 17’s Red this season and has coached at the 17, 16 and 15 year old age levels in the past. He is currently the fifth winningest coach in Chaos history.
Flanagan is currently a Varsity Assistant coach at ThunderRidge High School under legendary head coach Joe Ortiz. In his four seasons at ThunderRidge, he has coached multiple levels and been a very valuable asset to the program. During that time span, the Grizzlies gone 84-24, won two league titles and advanced to the Final Four two times, including a losing in the title game in 2008. Prior to his time at ThunderRidge, Flanagan coached at his alma mater Green Mountain High School under legendary coach Bruce Dick.
As a player Flanagan played for three seasons at Johnson and Whales under coaches Bill Perkins and Matt Gennisee, where he averaged 7.8 points and 4.1 assists per game. He also played high school basketball at Green Mountain High School under legendary coach Bruce Dick.
Flanagan currently lives in Lakewood with his fiancé Ashley Stroud. He works for the Denver Post as an Account Executive for the Automotive Sales team. He and Ashley will be getting married in November and plan to have children some day in the future.

MARK PERLMUTTER
Coach Perlmutter is entering his third season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 15’s Red this season after coaching the 17’s Green and 16’s Red in previous years.
Perlmutter is currently an assistant coach at Mullen High School under two time State Champion and fellow Colorado Chaos coach Porter Cutrell. Prior to his time at Mullen, Perlmutter coached at Denver East and Manual High Schools under legendary coach Rudy Carey. During his four years at Manual, he was a part of two State Championship teams in 1990 and 1991. Following his time with the ThunderBolts, he coached at Denver East for 13 seasons and was an integral part of three State Championships in 1996, 1999 and 2005. Overall, coach Perlmutter has been a part of five State Titles in his 19 years of coaching high school basketball.
Coach Perlmutter spent his college years learning the game as a student manager at the University of Kansas under National Champion and legendary coaches Roy Williams and Larry Brown. During his five seasons with the Jayhawks, he was a part of the 1988 National Championship team. In addition to his high school and college coaching experience, Perlmutter had the opportunity to coach in the 1998 McDonalds All American Game and was named the Aflac Assistant Coach of the Year in 2004.
Perlmutter currently teaches Special Education at Sobesky Academy in Lakewood and is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He is single and lives in Denver.

MAURICE MOORE
Coach Moore is entering his first season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 17’s Green.
Moore is currently working as a Player Development Coach for individuals and teams in the Denver metro area. Some of the notable players he has worked with include Richard Roby (University of Colorado), Jason Dixon (Liberty University) and Kevin Fletcher (Russia). Prior to that, Moore was an assistant coach for Seaside High School in Seaside California, where his team won their conference championship and went on to the California State Playoffs.
As a player, Moore played at San Jose State University under coach Phil Johnson, a former N.B.A. assistant and National Champion Assistant at University of Arizona. After his collegiate career was finished, Moore played three years of professional basketball for teams in the A.B.A. and the I.B.L., including the Colorado Crossover. His A.B.A. team, the San Jose Skyrockets, finished 29-5 and made it to the A.B.A. semi-finals. In high school, Moore won a state championship while at Washington Union High School in Fresno, California, where he played with future N.B.A. first round draft picks DeShawn Stevenson and Chris Jeffries. He also played his AAU basketball for the powerful EBO/EA Sports program.
Moore is currently working as a Player Development Coach for individuals and teams in the Denver metro area. Prior to that he was a teen counselor and worked for the Y.M.C.A of Metro Houston, the Boys and Girls Club in Monterey, California and as a site director for the Y.M.C.A of Metro Denver. Moore has been happily married to his wife Natalie Moore since 2004 and they recently welcomed their son Levi to the world in January. Moore graduated with a degree in sociology from San Jose State University.

BRETT CLOEPFIL
Coach Cloepfil is entering his first year coaching in the Colorado Chaos program. He will coach the 16’s Green.
Cloepfil is currently an assistant coach at Pueblo South High School under legendary coach Dave Lockett. He has been with the Colts for the past two seasons, where they have compiled records of 24-2 and 27-1. This past season, the Colts advanced to the State Finals, where they lost a heartbreaker. Last season they advanced to the Elite Eight.
As a player, Cloepfil played at Colorado State University at -Pueblo with fellow Chaos coaches Mike Puccio and Brian Vecchio. He was named to the R.M.A.C.-West All Conference team his senior season and was also named to the R.M.A.C. All-Academic Team in his final two seasons with the Thunder Wolves. Cloepfil set a school record with 41 straight free throws in and led the RMAC in free-throw percentage. For his career, he shot 41.1 percent for three-point range and 90.4 percent from the free throw line. He also received the Harry S. Simmons Scholarship Award his senior year, which is given annually to the standout male student athlete at the university.
Cloepfil is a native of Greeley. He graduated from C.S.U.-Pueblo with a degree in Exercise Science and Mass Communications. He is single and in the process of moving to the Denver area.

ROB WHITE
Coach White is entering his first season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 15’s White team.
White is currently an assistant coach at Standley Lake High School under longtime Chaos coach Mike Puccio. Prior to Standley Lake, White was the head coach at Galena High School in Galena, Alaska. In his single season at Galena, he led the Hawks to a winning record and a playoff appearance, something they failed to achieve prior to his arrival. Prior to theat, White served two years as an assistant coach at his alma mater Southern Nazarene University, with specific roles in recruitment and player development. Three players he coached at S.N.U. are currently playing professional basketball.
As a player, White played at Southern Nazerane University in Oklahoma City for four seasons under coach Bobby Martin. At S.N.U., White earned many awards and accolades, including being being named an N.A.I.A. All-American as well as Most Valuable Player. He finished his career as the fifth leading scorer in school history with 1,733 career points. He also finished his career as one of the top ten all time players in ten major categories, including the schools all time leader in three pointers made. Following his collegiate career, White played five successful years of professional basketball. He was played in the C.B.A. and I.B.L., including a stint with the Colorado Crossover. White was also briefly picked up by the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association. Most of his playing career was spent internationally playing in many European and South Asian countries. White currently operates a large carpet cleaning business in the Denver metro area. He is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma City with a B.S. in Marketing. He is single and lives in Lakewood.

CHAD RATHBUN
Coach Rathbun is in his first season with Colorado Chaos. He will be coaching the 14’s Blue this season.
Rathbun has been the Co-Head Girls Coach at Peak to Peak High School in Lafayette for the past two seasons. This past season he helped lead Peak to Peak to a 2nd place finish in the Denver Metro League and a number three seed in the 3A Regional Tournament. Rathbun, along with his dad Vern, were selected the Co-Coach's of the Year in the Metro League. Since taking over at Peak to Peak, they have led the Pumas to their first ever Regional Tournament and have qualified three out of four years. Prior to that Rathbun was the Junior Varsity Coach at Ranum High School for one season and was the 7th/8th Grade Girls and Boys Basketball Coach at Clear Lake Middle School for three seasons. Rathbun also gained experience at the collegiate level serving as a student assistant coach for the University of Northern Colorado Men’s Basketball team.
Rathbun currently works at Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette where he also coaches track. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado-Boulder and currently resides in Superior with his wife Kathryn.

BRIAN VECCHIO
Vecchio is entering his third season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 17’s South this season after coaching the 17’s Red last year and the 16’s White the year before that.
Vecchio recently finished his fourth season as the junior varsity coach at Manitou Springs High School under his father and legendary coach Ken Vecchio. The Mustangs have reached the state tournament every year he has been there and have been consistently ranked in the top ten in the state. He is also an assistant coach for both the boys and girls golf teams at Manitou Springs.
As a player, Vecchio played at Colorado State University at Pueblo under legendary coach Joe Folda. He was joined on the Thunder Wolves roster by fellow Chaos coaches Mike Puccio and Brett Cloepfil. He finished his career ranked 16th on the all time scoring list with 1,183 points. He was a three time All Conference selection and named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week on three different occasions. He also was a three time Academic All Conference selection and Academic All American. During his senior season, he was captain of the team and finished in the top ten in the nation in three point percentage. That same year he was named CSU-Pueblo Student Athlete of the Year and inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Hall of Fame.
Vecchio currently teaches Physical Education at Manitou Springs High School and is a graduate of Colorado State University at Pueblo. He is single and lives in Colorado Springs.
