TOURNAMENT SUMMARY

 

The 2009 Top of the Rockies was a huge success. It was the largest local tournament in Colorado history and featured 76 of the top club teams in the region.

 

Congratulations to the Tru Playaz for taking the title in Division One. The Colorado Chaos 15’s Blue took home the Division Two title and Next Level 14’s Gold ended up taking the title in Division Three. A tournament summary and All Event Team can be found below.

 

DIVISION ONE

 

The Tru Playaz took home the title in Division One. They finished the tournament 8-0 and played very on Sunday, defeating some very good teams on their way to the title. They won a tough championship game over the Colorado Chaos 17’s White. The game was close throughout and the Tru Playaz ended up pulling out a 49-44 victory. In the semi finals, the Tru Playaz defeated a polished Colorado Springs Flight team 56-42 and the Colorado Chaos 17’s White defeated the Colorado Chaos 16’s Blue 57-52.

 

Austin Evans (5’11” CG Cherokee Trail HS 2010) was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. He is a nice looking lead guard who shoots the ball very well from various ranges.

 

Some of the top 2009 and 2010 prospects who made the All Tournament Team include: Beau Gamble (6’0” PG New Hampton Prep, NH 2010), Eric Swift (6’3” CG Denver Street School 2009), Sydney Donaldson (6’4” SG Longmont 2010), Trevor Wages (6’8” P Chatfield 2010), Nick Tomsick (6’1” CG Broomfield 2010), Jordan Carter (6’6” SF Chatfield 2010), Donthe Lucas (6’7” P Pueblo Central 2010), Keigan Peterson (6’0” CG Green Mountain 2010), Landon Vermeer (6’2” SG Chatfield 2010), Ben Foley (6’2” SG Coronado 2010) and Cameron Jackson (6’3” SG Gillette, WY 2010).   

 

Some of the top 2011 and 2012 prospects who made the All Tournament Team include: Terrell Brown (6’4” SG Palmer 2011), Parker Semin (6’6” SF Arapahoe 2011), T.J. Adams (6’6” SF Silver Creek 2011), Javon Moore (6’5” SG Arapahoe 2011), Tyrone Marshall (6’8” P George Washington 2011), Brett Olson (6’3” SG Highlands Ranch 2011), Chris Hansen (6’4” SG Fossil Ridge 2011), Jordan Gregory (6’2” CG Pueblo East 2011), Riley Grabau (6’2” CG Faith Christian 2011), Cade Kloster (6’2” SG Longmont 2011), Jalen Little (5’8” PG Palmer 2012), Matt Rattiner (6’2” SF Cherry Creek 2012) and Jourdan Hunter (6’0” CG Cherokee Trail 2012).

 

DIVISION TWO

 

The Colorado Chaos 15’s Blue won the title in Division Two. They played very well throughout the playoffs and ended up defeating Next Level 15’s Gold 67-51 in the title game. The Colorado Chaos 15’s Blue also defeated the Shining Stars 16’s White 57-49 in the semi-finals while Next Level 15’s Gold defeated the Colorado Miners Gold 58-55 in an overtime thriller in the other semi-final game.

 

Shane Jensen (6’6” CF Arapahoe 2012) was named Most Outstanding Player. He played very throughout the tournament. He is a nice looking post who blocks shots, rebounds and scores inside well. He also has the ability to step outside and hit shots. This was the second straight year he was name M.O.P. in the tournament.

 

Other top prospects who made the All Tournament Team include: Kalieb Rodriguez (6’7” CF ThunderRidge 2012), Connor Cassidy (6’0” CG Cheyenne Mountain 2012), Chad Ervine (6’4” SG Arapahoe 2012), Zach Jones (6’4” CF ThunderRidge 2012), Kai Belveal (6’2” SG Cheyenne Mountain 2012), Wesley Gordon (6’6” P Sierra 2012), Alex Welsh (6’3” SG Pomona 2012), Max McCaffrey (6’2” SG Regis 2012) and Brandon Applehans (5’10” Standley Lake 2012).

 

DIVISION THREE

 

The Next Level 14’s Gold won the title in Division Three, going undefeated throughout the tournament and defeating the Colorado Hawks 14’s 48-30 in the finals. 

 

Ryan Margheim (6’2” SF Highlands Ranch 2013) was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. He is a nice looking mid-sized player who has a great motor. A few other notable prospects who made the All Tournament Team include: John Snow (6’5” P Columbine 2013), Zach Rusk (5’11” SG ThunderRidge 2013), Teray Barnes (5’11” SG ThunderRidge 2013) and Isiah Jackson (6’0” SG Overland 2013).
