GAME SUMMARY
This was easily the best game of the day, which is appropriate because this is arguably the most talented class in the state. The game started out with both teams trading baskets in the first half. The Black team ended up taking a 51-45 lead into the half behind strong second quarters from Joseph Abrams and Bud Thomas. The second half was much of the same with both teams trading baskets throughout. Late in the fourth quarter, a Wesley McKenzie layup gave the White team a two point lead only to have Thomas answer with a game tying bucket to send the game into overtime. McKenzie and Damian Terry took over in the overtime period to give the White a nice 110-103 victory.
Damian Terry (6’9” P Sand Creek) and Bud Thomas (6’6” CF Regis) were named Co-Most Outstanding Players on the game. Terry finished with a game high 26 points to go along with 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Thomas finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. It was appropriate for Terry and Thomas to be named Co-MOP’s as they are the top two ranked players in the Class of 2010.
TOP PERFORMERS
Damian Terry (6’9” P Sand Creek) is one of the premier post prospects in the country and made a nice showing in the event. He moves very well for a player his size and still has a ton of upside that he is finally starting to realize. His post moves have been rapidly improving and his defensive instincts are wonderful. He finished with game high 26 points and 14 rebounds to go along with 3 blocks and was named Co-Most Outstanding Player.
Bud Thomas (6’6” CF Regis) was the other Co-Most Outstanding Player of the game and finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. He has a knack for scoring around the rim and is a wonderful offensive rebounder. He can also step outside and hit the open jump shot when he gets the chance. He is one of the most effective players in the state and should have a wonderful junior season.
Wesley McKenzie (6’1” SG Liberty) was huge for his team late in the game. He is incredibly crafty getting to the rim and has a wonderful natural scoring ability. He finished the game with a solid 16 points. McKenzie should be one of the leading scorers in the state this season.
Joseph Abrams (5’11” CG Aurora Central) made a huge impact in this game. He should skyrocket up the rankings after his performance where he finished with 19 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Abrams has a nice thick frame and can play either guard position. He also defends well and should have a very good junior season.
David Day (6’6” SF ThunderRidge) looked great in the event and finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. He continues to grow and should end up in the 6’7-6’8” range. He has a nice skill set for a player his size and possesses more than adequate athleticism. He has the ability to post up smaller players and beat bigger players off the dribble and could turn into a nice Division I prospect if he can put on some weight and continue to develop in the next six months.
Tyler Velasquez (5’9” PG Doherty) has emerged as one of the top point guards in his class. He has a nice sturdy frame for a player his height and handles and shoots the ball very well. Velasquez gets to the rim well and finds the open man. He finished with 13 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.
Chris Carter (6’6” SF Thomas Jefferson) has a very nice frame for his position and can play virtually any position in the floor. He makes strong moves to the rim and shoots the ball well. He is a very adequate rebounder and defender and should have a big junior season. He finished the game with 15 points and 5 rebounds.
