CLASS OF 2008 (SENIORS)
Michael Vandahl (60 Steamboat Springs) and Dustin Wright (62 Skyline) were named the Top Seniors in the event. Vandahl is one of the best point guards in the state. He is a great shooter, ball handler and defender who does a great job of getting his teammates involved. He had a great summer and should follow that up with a wonderful senior season while leading one of the top 4A teams in the state. Wright is a wonderful athlete who has had a great fall. He attacks the rim well and has a nice stroke from mid range and should be one of the best players in his conference this season. Both players are wonderful RMAC prospects and should have great senior seasons.
Step-brothers Cyrus Durham (66 Cherokee Trail) and Bobby Banks (62 Cherokee Trail) both played well in the event. Durham is coming off a great summer. He is very active around the rim, has a nice stroke and good moves to the rim. He also has a ton of upside and could develop into a wonderful college player. Banks is coming off an injury and showed no ill effects in the event. He is very strong, finishes well at the rim and can play a variety of positions on the perimeter. Blake Maddox (511 Laramie, WY) also had a strong showing in the event. He is a quick, heady point guard who makes a lot of good things happen on offense.
Other seniors who played well in the event, but failed to make the All Event Team were Brock Hornung (65 Ralston Valley) and Trent Sides (510 Sterling). Hornung is incredibly strong and has a great motor underneath the basket. Sides is a natural scoring lefty who plays very hard on both ends of the floor.
CLASS OF 2009 (JUNIORS)
Pierce Hornung (64 Ralston Valley) was named the Most Outstanding Player and Top Junior and he was simply a man amongst boys in the event. Hornung is incredibly strong and has wonderful instincts and a great motor. He is tenacious on the glass, finishes well in traffic and can defend a variety of positions effectively. He also demonstrated a much improved jump shot in the event. Hornung is a great mid to upper mid major prospect with a lot of upside. He should be a first team All-State player this season while leading one of the best teams in the state.
Two junior post players looked great in the event. Peter Travers (67 Rocky Mountain) has a good frame and uses his body well to establish position in the post. He also has good footwork and nice touch around the rim and rebounds the ball well. Micah Edwards (66 Palmer) was the only player to make the All Event Team in both sessions of the CFS. He has improved tremendously over the past year and has nice moves from the high post. He also has a decent stroke from mid range and finishes well in traffic.
Jeremy Sullivan (59 DEvelyn) is one of the most underrated players in the state and has improved tremendously over the past year. He is a very quick, scrappy point guard who makes his teammates better and knows how to win games. Ryan Larson (64 Pueblo West) also made a nice showing in the event. He is a very strong lefty who attacks the rim and finishes well and also has a decent stroke.
Other juniors who played well but didnt make the All Event Team were Troy Noser (62 ThunderRidge), Robbie Belveal (60 Air Academy) and Joseph Huber (65 TBA). Noser is a great shooter who has improved his ability to score at the rim. Belveal is a great defender who finishes well at the rim and has a decent stroke. Huber recently moved here from Boston and is very active around the rim.
CLASS OF 2010 (SOPHOMORES)
The class of 2010 made another great showing in the event. They were lead by Joel Hegarty (62 Faith Christian), who was named the Top Sophomore. If not for Pierce Hornung, he would have been named the M.O.P. of the event. Hegarty was one of the leading scorers in the event and was also incredibly active on the defensive end. He is an explosive scorer who attacks the rim and shoots the ball well and plays aggressively on both ends of the floor. He may be the best sophomore in 3A and should help lead his team towards a state title this season.
Nick Tomsick (60 Broomfield) also made a great showing. He is a natural scorer and great shooter who attacked the rim well in the event. He could be the leading scorer on one of the best 4A teams in the state this season. Jordan Grace (61 ThunderRidge) played well in the event. He is a great shooter from various ranges and has a quick release. Landon Vermeer (62 Chatfield) also played well. He is a physically developed guard with a lot of upside who finishes well and has a nice mid range stroke.
Other sophomores who played well but did not make the All Event Team were Austin Evans (60 Cherokee Trail) and Josh Heikkla (63 ThunderRidge). Evans has nice shooting touch and handles the ball well. Heikkla plays hard on both ends of the floor and looks to have some growth potential.
CLASS OF 2011 (FRESHMEN)
Grant Hornung (61 Ralston Valley) was named the Top Freshmen and was the only player in his class to make the All Event Team. He has a good frame and a ton of upside. He attacks the rim and shoots the ball equally well.
Other freshmen who played well but didnt make the All Event Team were Jordan Gregory (510 Pueblo East), Isiah Forsyth (57 Steamboat Springs) and Cory Calvert (60 Ponderosa 2012). Gregory is a terrific point guard who was named Top Freshmen in Session One of the CFS. Forsyth is a lightning quick point guard who should see a lot of varsity time this season. Calvert is only an 8th grader and has the potential to be a big time high school player.
