CLASS OF 2007

Trevor Lyons (6’3” Boulder) was the lead all scorers and was name Co-Most Outstanding Player on the event. He was aggressive going to the rim all day long and looks to be completely back from an injury that caused him to miss the majority of the season last year. Lyons is a solid Division II prospect who should have a good senior year. Marshall Kelly (6’3” Laramie, WY) burst onto the scene with a fantastic performance and was also named Co-Most Outstanding Player of the event. He was all over the place on both ends of the court and showed a lot of versatility offensively, hitting shots from the perimeter and attacking the rim effectively. Kelly has a chance to be a solid Division II player and made a name for himself at the event.

Jeremy Carlston (6’8” Doherty) had a great day and was impressive inside. He was finishing well and very active defensively and on the glass. He will be part of possibly the best front line in the state at Doherty this year. Zach Street (6’0” Brighton) had a great day shooting the ball and seemed to get hotter from the perimeter as the day went on. His teammate, Kit Hensel (6’3” Brighton) also had a nice day. He committed to Fort Lewis this week and will make coach Bob Hofman very happy next year.

Ernest Nietza (5’11” Grandview) had a great day and made a lot of things happen on both ends of the court. He is relatively unknown and should have a nice season. He has a lot of upside and the potential to play college basketball. Brian Sackel (6’6” Elizabeth) is one of the best “unknown” players in the state and has a tremendous amount of upside. He has a chance to be the Player of the Year in his league this season. The Fairview duo of James Melillo (6’3”) and Barron Boedecker (6’3”) played well in the event as well. Melillo has great size for a point guard and is a very intelligent player. Boedecker plays very hard and has improved tremendously over the past year.

Other seniors who played well, but didn’t make the All Event Team were: Dana Evanoff (6’0” Monarch) and David McCullough (6’0” Thomas Jefferson). Both players have improved a great deal over the past few years and should surprise some people this season.

CLASS OF 2008

Aaron Caulkins (6’5” Steamboat Springs) burst onto the scene with a wonderful performance in the event. He is very athletic and versatile offensively and plays hard on defense. He had nice season last year but remained somewhat unknown due to where he plays.

Jake Campbell (6’0” Grandview) had a good day and was very active defensively. He runs the floor very well and makes good decisions with the ball when he’s attacking the rim. Jeff Aspegren (6’4” Green Mountain) also had a good day and has improved his jump shot tremendously.

Other juniors who played well, but didn’t make the All Event Team were: Nick Gill (6’0” Faith Christian), Galand Thaxton (5’10” Laramie, WY), Andrew Abrahamson (6’1” Grandview) and Jackson Bailey (6’1” Laramie, WY). Gill would have easily made the All Event Team is he didn’t have to leave early as he was playing very well.

CLASS OF 2009

Bryce Velasquez (5’8” Doherty) continues to impress. He is one of the quickest players in the state and has a knack for the ball. He shoots it well and typically makes good decisions when attacking the rim. Travis Shepherd (6’4” Fairview) was impressive as well. He hit some shots from the outside, which is typical for him, but he also made quite a few mid range and inside shots.

Other sophomores who played well, but didn’t make the All Event Team were: Marquis Burleson (6’2” Doherty) and Brendan Armstrong (6’5” Centaurus).

CLASS OF 2010

Jordan Carter (6’3” Chatfield) was the only freshmen to make the All Event Team. He was finishing well at the rim and hitting plenty of mid range jump shots.

Other freshmen who played well, but didn’t make the All Event Team were: Daniel Estes (6’0” Laramie, WY), Landon Vermeer (6’2” Chatfield) and Beau Webb (5’11” Arapahoe 2011). Estes made a very strong case for the All Event Team and being named the Top Freshmen. Webb is only an eighth grader and showed no fear playing against older players.
